The Man from the Diners’ Club ** (1963, Danny Kaye, Cara Williams, Martha Hyer, Telly Savalas) – Classic Movie Review 11,329

‘You’ll be hanging from the laffters at the funniest picture since money went out of style!’: The Man from the Diners’ Club (1963).

Director Frank Tashlin’s 1963 black and white comedy The Man from the Diners’ Club stars Danny Kaye as soppy Ernest Klenk, an employee the Diners’ Club, who mistakenly issues vicious hood Foots Pulardos (Telly Savalas) with a credit card and has to spend the rest of the movie trying to get it back to keep his job.

Kaye is on goodish form in this reasonably funny, if slackly paced comedy adventure, with an amusing screenplay from The Exorcist writer William Peter Blatty, billed as Bill Blatty, from his story written with John Fenton Murray. Tashlin ensures some good comic highlights, particularly later on in the movie.

Harry Dean Stanton has a tiny role as a hippy.

Also in the cast are Martha Hyer, Cara Williams, Everett Sloane, George Kennedy, Harry Dean Stanton, Kay Stevens, Howard Caine, Jay Novello, Ann Morgan Guilbert, Ronald Long, Mark Tobin, Cliff Carnell, Edmund Williams, Carol Dixon, John Newton, and Dorothy Neumann.
