The Dream Team **** (1989, Michael Keaton, Christopher Lloyd, Peter Boyle, Stephen Furst, Dennis Boutsikaris, Lorraine Bracco, Milo O’Shea, Philip Bosco, James Remar) – Classic Movie Review 8769

Director Howard Zieff’s 1989 comedy The Dream Team stars Michael Keaton, Christopher Lloyd, Peter Boyle and Stephen Furst as mental hospital patients who are separated from their doctor chaperone Dr Weitzman (Dennis Boutsikaris) on a field trip to a ballgame at Yankee Stadium, and are alone and lost among the actual real oddballs in New York City.

This clever mixture of farce, drama and crime thriller does not reach the heights of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, but it is consistently entertaining, funny and touching, with a good script and great performances.

The comedy is gentle, winsome and never insulting, and the result is miles ahead of the similar Crazy People. The stars are on their best, eccentric form, and the support is excellent too.

Also in the cast are Lorraine Bracco, Milo O’Shea, Philip Bosco, James Remar.
