Miss Robin Hood ** (1952, Margaret Rutherford, Richard Hearne, Michael Medwin, Peter Jones, James Robertson Justice, Sidney James, Reg Varney, Dora Bryan, Eunice Gayson, Edward Lexy) – Classic Movie Review 10,313

Director John Guillermin’s 1952 black and white film Miss Robin Hood stars Richard Hearne as girls’ story writer Henry Wrigley, who teams up with a dizzy fan, an old lady called Miss Honey (Margaret Rutherford), to go into petty crime to save her family whisky formula from falling into the wrong hands.

Director John Guillermin’s 1952 British movie is a jolly, if very daft comedy, in which Rutherford as usual effortlessly steals the show, even when surrounded by such delightful notables as Hearne (aka Mr Pastry), Peter Jones, Sidney James, James Robertson Justice, Dora Bryan, Michael Medwin (The Army Game), Eunice Gayson (Sylvia Trench, the first Bond girl in Dr No) and Reg Varney (On the Buses). And as always, Rutherford finds a role for her husband, Stringer Davis, as a board member.

Written by Val Valentine and Patrick Campbell, based on a story by Reed De Rouen, it is fun if you are in a silly mood.

Also in the cast are Edward Lexy, Fanny Rowe [Frances Rowe], Eric Berry, Russell Waters, Susanne Gibbs, Francis De Wolff and Kenneth Connor.

It is shot at Southall Studios, Southall, Middlesex, England.
