Elvis on Tour *** (1972, Elvis Presley) – Classic Movie Review 9304

Elvis Presley’s last film Elvis on Tour (1972) is ‘a close-up of the birth and life of an American phenomenon’, according to producer-directors Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel (who also made Mad Dogs and Englishmen).

What’s on screen is an entertaining documentary feature with Elvis still rockin’ and rollin’ at one-night stands on a national concert tour around America, and plenty of on-stage concert footage and back-stage atmosphere.

Elvis sings his classics, plus some early 70s hits, as well as the unexpected Bridge Over Troubled Water and Proud Mary.

As with Woodstock, Martin Scorsese had a hand in the editing as montage supervisor, though the credited film editor is Ken Zemke. It is in multiple-screen widescreen.

It won a 1973 Golden Globe as Best Documentary Film (tied with Walls of Fire, 1971).

Elvis on Tour is directed by Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel, runs 93 minutes, is made by MGM and Cinema Associates, is released by MGM-EMI, is written by Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel, is shot in Metrocolor by Robert E Thomas, and produced by Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel.
