Danger by My Side * (1962, Anthony Oliver, Maureen Connell, Alan Tilvern, Bill Nagy) – Classic Movie Review 12,772

Director Charles Saunders’s 1962 Butcher’s Film Services film Danger by My Side is a watchable if largely unremarkable British Sixties support-feature detective crime drama, with an okay story but no real star names to help it along.

Maureen Connell stars as Lynne Marsden, who starts work in Nicky Venning (Alan Tilvern)’s sleazy Soho nightclub to do some snooping because she thinks its owner bumped off her undercover police detective brother by running at him in a fast car. Her snooping leads to a case of diamond smuggling. Anthony Oliver co-stars as the detective inspector on the case with Tom Naylor as the detective sergeant.

Danger by My Side is short and fast moving, with capable direction by Charles Saunders in his final film, and that helps a lot. Plus, Maureen Connell is pleasant company and Alan Tilvern makes a good villain.

Also in the cast are Bill Nagy, Sony Cordeau, Brandon Brady, Wally Patch, John Stuart, and Kim Darvos.

It is made in the studio at Shepperton Film Studios, Middlesex, England, and on location in High Street, Whitton, London (the bank robbery at the start) and Percy Road, Whitton, London (when Lynne visits the florist).

Danger by My Side is directed by Charles Saunders, runs 62 minutes, is made by Butcher’s Film Productions, is released by Butcher’s Film Distributors. is written by Ronald C Liles and Aubrey Cash, is shot in black and white by Walter J Harvey, is produced by John I Phillips, and scored by Martin Slavin, with Art Direction by Harold Watson.
