Choose Me **** (1984, Geneviève Bujold, Lesley Ann Warren, Keith Carradine) – Classic Movie Review 11,568

Inventive writer-director-with-a-difference Alan Rudolph follows his Welcome to LA and Remember My Name with the deliciously quirky and perceptive 1984 adult comedy-drama film Choose Me about the relationships between repressed radio chat show sex therapist Nancy (Geneviève Bujold), free-love bar-owner Eve (Lesley Ann Warren) and sexy drifter Mickey (Keith Carradine), who pursues both of them and changes their lives.

Choose Me is a funny and surprising meditation on love, sex, lies, truth and eccentric mid-80s Los Angeles relationships, centered on Eve Lounge pick-up dive bar, stylishly directed by Rudolph, with a feast of fine acting, and it is gorgeously photographed (by cinematographer Jan Kiesser) in a neon-lit LA.

Also in the cast are Patrick Bachau, Rae Dawn Chong, John Larroquette, Edward Ruscha, Gailard Sartain and John Considine.

It was made on a budget of $835,000, and took $2 million at the box office.

The songs are performed by Teddy Pendergrass, who writes the title song.
