Angelo Mutti Spinetta stars in writer/ director Martín Deus’s sweet and appealing, rather beautiful 2018 Argentinian romantic drama film My Best Friend [Mi mejor amigo] as quiet teenager Lorenzo.

He lives a sheltered life in Argentine Patagonia with his parents and little brother, but, when a good friend of the family dies in an accident, his son Caíto (Lautaro Rodríguez) is taken in by them.

Caíto seems very shy and hardly speaks. Lorenzo is supposed to help him feel at home. Despite their differences, they become friends, spend great amounts of time together, and learn a lot from each other.

Although Lorenzo doesn’t like sports, he puts up with Caíto’s fascination for mountain biking. Though they are very different, they share deep conversations and come to understand each other. Very soon everybody at home realises Caíto is a difficult case, and after a couple of days, Lorenzo’s parents feel they that have had enough.

But then, Caíto makes a big confession to Lorenzo. He tells him the true reason why he was forced to leave his house. After that, Lorenzo takes charge of him so his parents let him stay. He now has a secret to hold, a responsibility to take and a troublesome partner that will take him through new life experiences.

Lautaro Rodríguez also stars in Young Hunter.

Plot summary

Lorenzo (Angelo Mutti Spinetta), a teenager who lives in Patagonia, receives into his home Caíto (Lautaro Rodríguez), the son of family friends who are undergoing a serious situation and cannot take care of him. Caíto is a troubled young man who has difficulty adapting. In spite of their differences, the two have a special friendship, where each one learns a lot from the other. One day Caíto tells him the real reason why he had to leave his house and Lorenzo will have to take charge of a heavy secret.
