Rogue Trader **** (1999, Ewan McGregor, Anna Friel, Cristian Solimeno) – Classic Movie Review 10,282

Rogue Trader (1999) stars Ewan McGregor, who finds an excellent role and excels as ambitious real-life investment broker Nick Leeson, who breaks trading rules, covers up losses and eventually bankrupts the famous old British bank, Barings Bank, he works for.

Both as writer and director, James Dearden makes an excellent job of bringing Nick Leeson’s autobiography to the screen. It is a fascinating story, very well told, with both enthusiasm and imagination.

Also in the cast are Anna Friel as Nick’s wife Lisa, Cristian Solimeno, Tim McInnerny, Michael Garner, Sharon Duce, Pip Torrens, Lee Ross, Tom Wu and Daniel York.
