The Lonely Trail (1936, John Wayne).

Director Joseph Kane’s 1936 Republic Pictures’ Western film The Lonely Trail stars John Wayne, Ann Rutherford, Cy Kendall, Bob Kortman, Etta McDaniel, and Sam Flint.

Wayne plays ex-Union officer Captain John Ashley, who returns home to Texas, now afflicted by carpetbaggers still in Yankee uniform, which he proceeds to try to gun down.

John Wayne is hardly stretched as the cowboy hero called John, in this mundane, uninvolving, cheaply and quickly made Republic Pictures’ double-feature Western, full of undigested clichés.

Also with Fred ‘Snowflake’ Toones, Dennis Moore [Denny Meadows], Jim Toney, Yakima Canutt, Lloyd Ingraham, and Bob Burns.
