The Hidden II * (1993, Raphael Sbarge, Kate Hodge, Michael Welden, Jovin Montanaro) – Classic Movie Review 8999

Writer-director Seth Pinsker’s 1994 sequel The Hidden II comes without any of the original stars (Kyle MacLachlan, Claudia Christian, Michael Nouri, Ed O’Ross, Clarence Felder, Clu Gulager) from the 1987 The Hidden. So it is a funny idea to cast Raphael Sbarge as a main character named MacLachlan in this otherwise unimaginative and disappointing sequel to a great original.

The now dead intelligent evil alien like a huge slug, which took over and lives in the bodies of a number of respectable LA humans and turned them into killer criminals, has left behind a legacy of alien eggs which are about to hatch out…

Tom Beck (Michael Welden, taking over from Michael Nouri in The Hidden), the nice cop in the original, and his policewoman daughter Juliet (Kate Hodge) must unite against the evil alien. Luckily, the good alien still inhabits Tom Beck’s body.

Alas, sci-fi gold doesn’t strike twice and, unlike the original, this is not a Hidden gem.

Also in the cast are Jovin Montanaro, Christopher Murphy, Michael A Nickles, Tony DeBenedetto, Tom Tayback, Dennis Bertsch, Cate Caplin, Peter Gregory and Edith Varon.

The Hidden II is directed by Seth Pinsker, runs 92 minutes, is made by New Line Cinema, released by PolyGram Video (1993) (UK), is written by Seth Pinsker, is shot by Bryan England, is produced by Michael T Meltzer, is scored by Anthony Mabin and David McHugh, and is designed by Bryan Jones.

It is rated R for sci-fi horror violence and gore, and for language and a sex scene.
