Tarzan Triumphs *** (1943, Johnny Weissmuller, Frances Gifford, Johnny Sheffield) – Classic Movie Review 8057

Director William [Wilhelm] Thiele’s pleasant and popular 1943 jungle adventure Tarzan Triumphs finds Johnny Weissmuller leaving the jungles of MGM Studios after six movies for those of RKO and swinging back into action, routing the Nazi paratroopers who have found their way to darkest Africa to plunder raw materials.

With Maureen O’Sullivan quitting after Tarzan’s New York Adventure (1942), there is no Jane this time, but instead there is Frances Gifford as Princess Zandra, Johnny Sheffield back as Boy, Cheetah the Tommy-gun wielding chimp and a perceptive elephant who shoves a storm trooper off a cliff.

Also in the cast are Stanley Ridges, Sig Ruman, Pedro de Cordoba, Philip Van Zandt, Stanley Brown, Otto Reichow and Rex Williams.

Tarzan Triumphs is directed by William Thiele, runs 78 minutes, is made by Sol Lesser Productions, is released by RKO, is written by Carroll Young and Roy Chanslor, is shot in black and white by Harry Wild, is produced by Sol Lesser and is scored by Constantin Bakaleinikoff.

It is followed by Tarzan’s Desert Mystery (1943).

The jungle fort appears earlier in RKO’s 1939 Gunga Din.
