The 1956 American Western drama film Stranger at My Door stars Skip Homeier as a bank-robbing outlaw on the run who holes up in a farm belonging to a preacher (Macdonald Carey) and his new wife (Patricia Medina).

Director William Witney’s small-scale, effective 1956 Republic Pictures black and white Western Stranger at My Door is written by Barry Shipman, based on his story, and stars Macdonald Carey, Skip Homeier, and Patricia Medina.

A bank-robbing outlaw, Clay Anderson (Skip Homeier), on the run and chased by a posse, holes up in a farmhouse with a man of God, preacher Hollis Jarret (Macdonald Carey), who helps him see the light.

Despite the Western setting, this drama film is more of a moral fable than an action picture. Veering towards the ponderous and talky it may be, but it is well conceived and sincere, with some interesting casting, including Patricia Medina as Jarret’s new pretty young wife Peg (who likes the look of Homeier) and Stephen Wootton as his son from a previous marriage, as well as Louis Jean Heydt as Sheriff John Tatum, Slim Pickens as Ben Silas, Howard Wright as ‘Doc’ Parks, Malcolm Atterbury as the Reverend Hastings, Fred Sherman, Tom Black, Peter Brocco, and Paul E Burns.

Skip Homeier takes the acting honours as the menacing outlaw Clay Anderson. The highlight is the breaking-the-unbreakable mad stallion sequence, making the film a favourite of Quentin Tarantino.
