Director Herbert Wise’s sweet and moving 1985 American romantic drama TV movie Reunion at Fairborough is the fourth and final film starring Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr.

It is written by Albert Ruben, and premiered on HBO on May 12, 1985. With these two irresistible actors reunited in a tailor-made setting, Reunion at Fairborough plays at a high level for the Eighties TV movie genre.

Robert Mitchum plays Carl Hostrup, a disillusioned American World War Two veteran who returns to England for a US Army Air Forces reunion after 40 years. He is reunited with his ex-lover, Sally Wells Grant (Deborah Kerr), and learns he is a father and a grandfather.

The cast are Robert Mitchum as Carl Hostrup, Deborah Kerr as Sally Wells Grant, Red Buttons as Jiggs Quealy, Judi Trott as Sheila, Barry Morse as Nathan Barsky, Shane Rimmer as Joe Szyluk, Don Fellows as Duffy, Manning Redwood as Colonel Brigard, Ed Devereaux as George Klass, and Helen Horton as Mrs Bigard.

The two stars’ four movies together are Heaven Knows, Mr Allison (1957), The Sundowners (1960), The Grass Is Greener and the TV movie Reunion at Fairborough. Their enduring friendship lasted until Mitchum’s death in 1997.
