Orpheus’ Song *** (2019, Sascha Weingarten, Julien Lickert, Henry Morales, Kristina Kostiv) – Classic Movie Review 12,838

Writer-director Tor Iben goes by the name of Feelbadmovies, but the cute 2019 German romantic adventure drama film Orpheus’ Song is a feel-good movie. Hooray! It’s a nice and quirky tale of two gym buddies.

Writer-director Tor Iben goes by the name of Feelbadmovies, but the cute 2019 German romantic adventure drama film Orpheus’ Song is a feel-good movie. Hooray!

Sascha Weingarten stars as Philipp, one of a pair of muscular Berlin gym buddy best friends, who wins a surprise holiday in Greece and insists on taking along his supposedly straight student friend Enis (Julien Lickert), who cheerily abandons his live-in girlfriend Kristina (Kristina Kostiv). Kristina is surprisingly patient and tolerant, obviously keen to hold on to Enis.

Arriving in Greece by plane on their trip, they leave their hotel, go trekking and get lost on an island. They spend the night together in a cave, drawn there by a strange beguiling local called Herkules (Henry Morales), drink his potion, and dream a mystical dream while they sleep together (cue the spiritually mysterious flute player). The next day, they wake up, find their money stolen, but abandon themselves to the sea and each other, and nothing between them is ever going be the same.

Orpheus’ Song is highly entertaining, nice and quirky, atmospheric, lots of fun, very romantic and quite sexy too, with two appealing, charming guys giving ingratiating performances. It’s got a great mood and super atmosphere, shot in Berlin and Corfu. What more do you want?
