Live, Love and Learn *** (1937, Robert Montgomery, Rosalind Russell, Robert Benchley) – Classic Movie Review 6975

Robert Montgomery and Rosalind Russell in Live, Love and Learn (1937).

Director George Fitzmaurice’s 1937 movie Live, Love and Learn stars Rosalind Russell as a wealthy sophisticate who weds a poor artist (Montgomery).

MGM’s vehicle for its two stars is a routine but still often amusing and always amiable daffy Thirties black and white comedy.

The pleasing stars are on fine form, but the vintage support cast is even better, particularly the irrepressible Maude Eburne as the landlady.

Live, Love and Learn is fast-paced and brief at just 78 minutes, so it does not come even near to wearing out its welcome.

Also in the vintage support cast are Robert Benchley, Helen Vinson, Mickey Rooney, Monty Woolley, Maude Eburne, E E Clive, Al Shean, Billy Gilbert, Dorothy Appleby, James Flavin, Frank Sully, Ann Rutherford, Chester Clute, Wilbur Mack and Charles Irwin.

Live, Love and Learn is directed by George Fitzmaurice, runs 78 minutes, is produced and released by MGM, is written by Charles Brackett, Cyril Hume and Richard Maibaum, is shot in black and white by Ray June, is produced by Harry Rapf and scored by Edward Ward.
