Director Daniel Duval’s 1979 French film La Dérobade [Memoirs of a French Whore] stars Miou-Miou, Daniel Duval, Maria Schneider and Niels Arestrup.

Miou-Miou is outstanding in her César Award-winning, career-making role as bored 19-year-old suburban French girl Marie, who meets Gérard (Daniel Duval) in a café. He turns out to be a vicious pimp, who forces her into prostitution and violence.

Based on doubt on its provocative title and subject, but also hopefully on its quality and especially Miou-Miou’s performance, it was a hit, taking $20.7 million.

Miou-Miou (born Sylvette Herry on 22 February 1950) is a 10-time César Award nominee, and won as Best Actress for the 1979 film La Dérobade [Memoirs of a French Whore].
