Iron Eagle II * (1988, Louis Gossett Jr, Mark Humphrey, Stuart Margolin) – Classic Movie Review 10,189

Sidney J Furie’s 1988 action sequel Iron Eagle II again stars Louis Gossett Jr, who is back as US Air Force General Charles ‘Chappy’ Sinclair, without original star Jason Gedrick as his co-star, and this time he gets hunky aviator Cooper (Mark Humphrey) to link up with the Russian pilots for another Middle East caper.

Iron Eagle II is more dim, daft and dubious action with unconsidered hawkish ethics, and this time much less enjoyable, and even less realistic than Iron Eagle (1986).

However, Gedrick does put in a crucial uncredited appearance as Doug Masters.

It is again written by Kevin Elders and Sidney J Furie.

It took $10,497,324 against the original’s gross of $24,159,872, but even so Iron Eagle III and Iron Eagle IV followed.

Also in the cast are Stuart Margolin, Alan Scarfe, Sharon Hacohen [Sharon H Brandon], Maury Chaykin, Colm Feore, Clark Johnson, Jason Blicker, Uri Gavriel and Jason Gedrick.

Iron Eagle II is directed by Sidney J Furie, runs 105 minutes, is made by Carolco Pictures, Alliance Entertainment, Canadian Entertainment Investors Number One and Company Limited Partnership and Harkot Productions, is released by TriStar Pictures (1988) (US) and Pathé Distribution (1989) (UK), is written by Kevin Elders and Sidney J Furie, is shot in colour by Alain Dostie, is produced by Jacob Kotzky, Sharon Harel and John Kemeny, is scored by Amin Bhatia, and is designed by Ariel Roshko.

Canadian film director Sidney Joseph Furie turned 85 on 28 February 2018. He is also known for Iron Eagle, The Ipcress File, Gable and Lombard, The Leather Boys, The Entity and The Boys in Company C.
