I Start Counting ** (1969, Jenny Agutter, Bryan Marshall, Clare Sutcliffe) – Classic Movie Review 10,066

The 1969 British horror thriller I Start Counting is not too bad for a stalk and slash movie and it is all eerily handled by efficient director David Greene

Start counting the false clues in this hokey, but occasionally genuinely creepy version of Audrey Erskine Lindop’s psychological thriller, with an up-front attitude to sex.

The 16-year old Jenny Agutter (playing 14) grabs a big early chance to shine, the year before she made The Railway Children.

The burning question is, is adopted teenager Wynne (Agutter)’s beloved older foster brother George (Bryan Marshall) the sex killer who is terrorising the English Midlands?

The screenplay is by the writer Richard Harris.

It also features Clare Sutcliffe, Simon Ward, Lana Morris, Billy Russell, Fay Compton, Lally Bowers, Madge Ryan, Michael Feast, Charles Lloyd Pack, Lewis Fiander, Gregor Phillips and Gordon Richardson.

Jenny Agutter’s film career began at the age of 12 in East of Sudan (1964).
