Ghoulies IV * (1994, Peter Liapis, Barbara Alyn Woods, Stacie Randall) – Classic Movie Review 10,326

Director Jim Wynorski’s 1994 Ghoulies IV brings back original Ghoulies star Peter Liapis, who played he boy summoned up the terrible terrors in the 1984 first episode, and now works as a policeman in Los Angeles. But his past catches up with him…

Ghoulies IV is more nasty-toned Ghoulie gruesome black comedy horror nonsense, but this time it is done with just an inkling of oomph and flair.

With Peter Liapis as Jonathan Graves, the link to the 1984 original will satisfy the fans of the series.

It was cert 15 but re-rated 12 on video. The 1994 UK video was cut by nine seconds by the BBFC. The cuts were restored on the 2004 Boulevard DVD.

Also in the cast are Stacie Randall, Barbara Alyn Woods, Raquel Krell, Bobby Di Cicco, Tony Cox as Ghoulie Dark, and Arturo Gil as Ghoulie Lite.

Mark Sevi’s screenplay was much re-written by actor Peter Liapis and director Jim Wynorski.

The Ghoulies are played by actors in costumes instead of the puppet props of the original Ghoulies to save costs.

It follows Ghoulies (1984), Ghoulies II (1987) and Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College (1990).

Ghoulies IV is directed by Jim Wynorski, runs 84 minutes, is made by Cinetel Films, is released by Warner Bros, is written by Mark Sevi, based on characters by Luca Bercovici and Jefery Levy, is shot by J E Bash, is produced by Gary Schmoeller, is scored by Chuck Cirino and is designed by Jeannie M Lomma.
