Falling in Love Again (1980, Elliott Gould, Susannah York, Michelle Pfeiffer) – Classic Movie Review 10,654

Elliott Gould and Susannah York play Harry and Sue Lewis, the present day couple in Falling in Love Again, a shambling 1980 American romantic drama film, with keen young Steven Paul (only 20 at the time) trying to do too many things as producer, co-writer, director and actor.

There is a plot in the story by Steven Paul and Hank Paul that is difficult to bring off about middle-aged, anxious, midlife crisis-afflicted present day Harry (Gould) looking back to his younger, happier days in 1940s New York while he takes Sue and their teenage kids on a cross-country car trip back to the Bronx for his high school reunion.

It is Michelle Pfeiffer’s unpromising second film appearance, as the unconvincing young version of Sue (York).

Falling In Love Again is unfortunately neither fresh nor perceptive nor enjoyable, though the actors the present day section of the movie are appealing enough.

Also in the cast are Stuart Paul, Kaye Ballard, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Hackman, Herbert Rudley, Marian McCargo and Steven Paul.

Michel Legrand (music) and Carol Connors (lyrics) were Golden Globe nominated for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for the song ‘Yesterday’s Dreams’.

Producer and writer Steven Paul was born on 16 May 1959 in New York City. He provided the story for Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 (2004), which is currently rated the IMDb’s Bottom Rated Movie #2. Disaster Movie (2008) is currently Bottom Rated Movie #1.
