Cabin Fever *** (2003, Rider Strong, Jordan Ladd, James DeBello, Cerina Vincent, Jeoy Kern) – Classic Movie Review 2731

1

Rider Strong (Paul), Jordan Ladd (Karen), James DeBello (Bert), Cerina Vincent (Marcy) and Joey Kern (Jeff) star as five foolishly intrepid teens who set out for a lonely woodland cabin, but are struck down by a flesh-eating virus…

A man contaminated with a weird disease asks them for help, but they panic and burn him, but his body falls in the reservoir. After Karen drinks tap water and gets the disease, the quintet begin their journey into hell. And naturally, there’s a bunch of homicidal locals (Matthew Helms, Richard Boone, Robert Harris, Hal Courtney).

This nightmarish 2003 schlock horror movie is a nifty, scary debut for clever young co-writer/director Eli Roth (writing with Randy Pearlstein).

Cheekily borrowing his plot from 1982’s infamous video nasty The Evil Dead, Roth puts a fresh gloss of paint on the old fright formulas. His full-on horror film boasts loads of style, buckets of blood and a wittily dark sense of humour.

Also in the cast are Robert Harris as Old Man Cadwell, Arie Verveen as Henry the Hermit, Giuseppe Andrews, Hal Courtney, Matthew Helms, Tim Parati and Dante Walker, and the director has a cameo.

Rated R for strong violence and gore, sexuality, language and brief drug use.
