Basket Case 3: The Progeny * (1991, Kevin Van Hentenryck, Annie Ross, Gil Roper) – Classic Movie Review 10,083

Writer-director Frank Henenlotter’s bizarre and fairly ghastly 1991 third episode in the black comedy horror series, Basket Case 3: The Progeny, in which Duane finds his basket-bound brother Belial will soon become a father and small-town folk harass a new generation of monsters, completes the trilogy.

Kevin Van Hentenryck and Annie Ross return as Duane Bradley and Granny Ruth, the stars from Basket Case 2.

However, though Henenlotter may have disappointed in the film, the acting, special effects trick work and story are a tiny improvement on the level of Basket Case 2, with Van Hentenryck and Ross on good form.

Also in the cast are Tina Louise Hilbert as Opal, Dan Biggers as Uncle Hal, Gil Roper as Sheriff, and James O’Doherty as Little Hal.

Basket Case 3: The Progeny is directed by Frank Henenlotter, runs 90 minutes, is made and released by Shapiro-Glickenhaus Entertainment, is written by Frank Henenlotter and Robert Martin, is shot by Robert Paone, is produced by James Glickenhaus (executive producer) and Edgar Ievens and scored by Joe Renzetti.

Special Effects by Gabriel Bartalos (special makeup effects supervisor: Atlantic West Effects).

It premiered at MIFED in October 1991 and was released in the US on 21 February 1992 as Basket Case 3. Basket Case 3: The Progeny is the US video title.

‘Personality’ written by Harold Logan and Lloyd Price is performed by Annie Ross and the Renzettes.
