Treasure of Matecumbe ** (1976, Robert Foxworth, Joan Hackett, Peter Ustinov, Vic Morrow, Jane Wyatt, Johnny Doran, Billy Attmore) – Classic Movie Review 10,993

Director Vincent McEveety’s 1976 Treasure of Matecumbe is a pleasant family Western adventure feature with Dr Ewing T Snodgrass (Peter Ustinov) and two tearaway kids, Davie Burnie (Johnny Doran) and Thad (Billy Attmore [Billy ‘Pop’ Atmore]), partaking in various adventures in 1869 Kentucky while searching for a lost fortune hidden in a treasure chest by his late father in the Florida Everglades during the US Civil War.

Ustinov, Robert Foxworth as Jim Burnie, Joan Hackett as Lauriette Paxton, Vic Morrow as Spangler and the two kids give a lift to this routinely scripted and averagely filmed Seventies Wat Disney live-action adventure covering all the expected ground and also featuring an impressive final storm sequence.

Don Tait’s screenplay is based on the novel A Journey to Matecumbe by Robert Lewis Taylor.

Also in the cast are Jane Wyatt, Virginia Vincent, Robert DoQui, Don Knight, Mills Watson, Dub Taylor, Valentin de Vargas, Dick Van Patten, George Lindsey, Logan Ramsey, Jonathon Daly, John Myhers, James E Brodhead, John Steadman and Brion James.

Johnny Doran (born May 25, 1962) started his films in The Hideaways (1973) and ended in Superstition (1982), and was reported practising labour law in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2017.
