Writer-director Jared Frieder’s 2022 American comedy drama film Three Months stars Troye Sivan, Viveik Kalra, Brianne Tju, Javier Muñoz, Judy Greer, Amy Landecker, Louis Gossett Jr and Ellen Burstyn.

Australian singer-songwriter and actor Troye Sivan is most appealing as the main star and Three Months is very likable, saying all the right things in a fresh, funny bitter-sweet gay way. It’s a nice, cool, charming film and has a good cast, an amusing script, and a super soundtrack to make it work. They are lucky to have Ellen Burstyn and Louis Gossett Jr, showing their real class.

Troye Sivan stars as South Florida teen Caleb Kahn, who goes through a time of anxiety and re-evaluation after he finds out that he has been exposed to HIV and has to wait three months for the definitive test. He lives with his grandmother Valerie (Ellen Burstyn) and her partner Benny (Louis Gossett Jr), has a store job at Suzanne (Judy Greer)’s shop, one friend, his co-worker Dara (Brianne Tju), and makes a new friend at the gay centre.

Eventually the script follows an unexpected path, and that is excellent. Is Caleb going to be OK? Well, that is never really in doubt. He’s way too switched on for misery. But what kind of OK, that’s the thing, and let’s all learn a few things and have fun and a bit of heartache as we share his three months’ wait.

Troye Sivan Mellet was born 5 June 1995, which makes him 26 at the time of filming, easily playing 17. He came out publicly as gay via a YouTube video on 7 August 2013, three years after coming out to his family. His middle name turned surname Sivan is a Hebrew calendar month. He found success as a YouTube  video blog personality, with more than 7.3 million subscribers and over 1.3 billion views.
