Director Ellory Elkayem’s 2000 American science fiction horror movie They Nest stars Thomas Calabro, Dean Stockwell, John Savage, and Kristen Dalton. It is also known as Creepy Crawlers.

A stressed-out doctor called Dr Ben Cahill (Thomas Calabro), hoping for a quiet life for a few months on an isolated island off the coast of Maine, discovers a vicious swarm of mutant carnivorous cockroaches. Dean Stockwell is down on his luck as the local lawman, Sheriff Hobbs, who gets Cahill examining animal and human corpses with strange internal and external injuries.

They Nest is silly, derivative sci-fi horror, watchable and some fun, but with too few real scares and not enough good performances to go round, though it is rescued by the entertainment value of the decent special effects.

Also in the cast are Tom McBeath, Mark Schooley, Travis MacDonald and Dean Wray.

John Claflin and Daniel Zelman.

As a result of this film, director Elkayem went on to direct the similar-minded Eight Legged Freaks.

Release date: July 25, 2000 (US).

It is made in Canada by The Kushner-Locke Company, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2001.
