‘FIVE DESPERATE MEN… and a girl who didn’t care… trapped on a mountain of gale-lashed rock!’

Director Abner Biberman’s 1955 American adventure drama film The Looters written by Richard Alan Simmons, based on a story by Paul Schneider, and stars Rory Calhoun, Ray Danton, Julie Adams, Thomas Gomez and Frank Faylen, along with Rod Williams, Russ Conway, John Stephenson, and Emory Parnell.

After a flight crash-lands in the Colorado Rockies, the survivors — model Sheryl Gregory (Julie Adams), clerk George Parkinson (Thomas Gomez), sailor Stan Leppich (Frank Faylen), and injured co-pilot (Rod Williams) — and mountaineering rescuers — Jesse Hill (Rory Calhoun) and Pete Corder (Ray Danton) battle over the $250,000 cash that is up for grabs in the fuselage.

The Looters is basically a dull drama of marginal interest, with an over-familiar premise and routine plot development. Basic playing from the unspectacular team compounds the sluggish handling. It is shot in the studio, and in black and white too. Luckily, it is fairly short at 87 minutes.

Julie Adams plays the ‘girl who didn’t care’, Sheryl Gregory, and we care about her because she’s the best thing about the movie. Talking about caring, Julie Adams met Ray Danton while making this film. They married in 1954 and had two sons, but divorced in 1981.

The film was made by Universal Pictures and released by the studio in May 1955.
