There are no surprises and there is little excitement in the old-style German location and studio-made 1970 World War Two drama film The Last Escape [OSS] about a daring Allied commando attempt to spring a rocket boffin, Dr Von Heinken (Pinkas Braun), from the clutches of the Germans.

Stuart Whitman’s star turn as an American captain leads a clutch of dull performances, but Walter Grauman’s efficiently handled action sequences give it a bit of a boost.

An American-West German co-production, it was filmed in 1968 by Oakmont Productions for Mirisch Productions at the Bavaria Studios in Munich on sets designed by Rolf Zehetbauer but not released until May 6, 1970.

The cast are Stuart Whitman, John Collin, Martin Jarvis, Pinkas Braun, Johnny Briggs, Guether Neutze, Margit Saad, Patrick Jordan, Harald Dietl, Andrew Lodge, David Taylor, and Richard Abbott.
