Hammer Films’ 1955 British second feature mystery thriller film The Glass Cage [The Glass Tomb] stars John Ireland, Honor Blackman, Geoffrey Keen, Eric Pohlmann and Sidney James.

Director Montgomery Tully’s 1955 Hammer Films British second feature mystery thriller film The Glass Cage [The Glass Tomb] is written by Richard H Landau, based on A E Martin’s 1945 novel The Outsiders, and stars John Ireland, Honor Blackman, Geoffrey Keen, Eric Pohlmann, Sidney James, Sydney Tafler, and Liam Redmond.
John Ireland is the obligatory minor US star persuaded over to England by Hammer Film Productions for this odd, fragrant, atmospheric thriller about a circus performer (Eric Pohlmann) who is killed in the glass cage where he performs his act, after he witnesses a murder of a blackmailer.
The mystery isn’t too bad, and choice 1950s Brit support players help to sustain interest when the script flags.
Also in the cast are Tonia Bern, Nora Gordon, Arthur Howard, Sam Kydd, Stan Little, Arnold Marlé, Ferdy Mayne, and Valerie Vernon.
Also appearing briefly are Dandy Nichols as woman with child (uncredited) and Bernard Bresslaw as Ivan the Terrible, Cossack dancer (uncredited).
Filming began on 19 July 1954, and it was released on 29 August 1955 in the UK by Exclusive Films, and then by Lippert Films in the US.
It was retitled The Glass Tomb in the US.
