Director Charles R Rondeau’s 1962 black and white supernatural horror film Devil’s Partner stars Ed Nelson, Edgar Buchanan, Jean Allison, and Richard Crane.
The Devil’s Partner is cheap and creaky old horror hokum, with a good turn from Edgar Buchanan as old Doc Lucas and a weird plot about an old man, who, in a pact with the Devil, exchanges his soul to be a young bloke (Ed Nelson) and then needs a girlfriend, using the black arts to prize a likely woman away from her feller.
The plotline is pretty incoherent, with failures in logic and abrupt changes of direction, but it has some interesting moments and ideas, while cinematographer Edward Cronjager and set designer Daniel Haller help to make it look as good as they can on the low budget. It is a fascinating curio.
Also in the cast are Spencer Carlisle, Byron Foulger, Claire Carleton, Brian O’Hara, Harry Fleer, and Joe Hooker.
Devil’s Partner is directed by Charles R Rondeau, runs 75 minutes, is made by Huron Productions, is released by Grand National Pictures (UK) and The Filmgroup (US), is written by Stanley Clements and Laura Jean Mathews, is shot in Rondeau’s black and white by Edward Cronjager, is produced by Hugh M Hooker, is scored by Ronald Stein, and is designed by Daniel Haller.
