Tank Girl *** (1995, Lori Petty, Ice-T, Naomi Watts, Malcolm McDowell) – Classic Movie Review 6540

Director Rachel Talalay’s likeable 1995 sci-ft action comedy fantasy feature is a funky, quirky cult film with plenty of attitude.

Lori Petty invigorates an in-your-face version of the British comic strip as futuristic heroine Rebecca Buck, aka Tank Girl, fighting evil with the help of her mutant kangaroo and her new friend Jet Girl (Naomi Watts).

Malcolm McDowell is once again way over the top as the villain Kesslee, who is plotting to control what is left of the world’s water supply in the year 2033. But Ice-T is entertaining as T-Saint.

Also in the cast are Don Harvey, Jeff Kober, Reg E Cathey, Scott Coffey, Stacy Lynn Ramsower, Ann Cusack, Brian Wimmer, Iggy Pop, James Hong and Ann Magnusson.

The screenplay by Tedi Sarafian (nephew of Robert Altman) is based on the comic strip by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett.

It is shot by Gale Tattersall, produced by Richard B Lewis and Pen Densham, and scored by Graeme Revell.
