A recently retired married couple find it difficult to adjust and settle down to their retirement in a northern English seaside town.

The wonderfully natural performances of Gabrielle Daye and Harry Markham as the elderly couple and Alan Bennett’s acute dialogue and Frears’s attentive, sensitive handling combine to make this simple character-led story a moving and memorable drama, with affecting tragi-comic moments.

Also in the cast are Christine Buckley, Bill Pilkington, Elizabeth Dawn, Madge Hindle and Paul Shane.
