Director Paul Dickson’s 1954 British second feature romantic drama film Star of My Night is written by Paul Tabori, based on his 1947 novel Le Soleil de ma Nuit, and stars an A-feature line-up of Griffith Jones, Pauline Olsen, Kathleen Byron, and Hugh Williams.
A jaded sculptor called Michael (Griffith Jones) makes a full-scale statue of a lovely ballerina called Iris (Pauline Olsen) whom he adores, but her furious boyfriend punches him out. He ends up going blind, preferring to save the statue than this sight or the girl, but this eventually does mean he ends up with her, of course.
Star of My Night is cheap and not at all cheerful entertainment. This dreary, uninvolving drama means well but gets nowhere much and very slowly, but the performances are capable enough.
It is scored by Edwin T Astley, and there is music by the Malcolm Mitchell Trio.
Also in the cast are Harold Lang, André Mikhelson, Ilona Ferenc, Kenneth Edwards, Mona Washourne, and Malcolm Mitchell.
Star of My Night is directed by Paul Dickson, runs 71 minutes, is made by Kenilworth Film Productions, is released by General Film Distributors (UK), is written by Paul Tabori, is shot in black and white by Jack E Cox, is produced by Edward J Danziger and Harry Lee Danziger, is scored by Edwin T Astley, and is designed by John Elphick.
Release date: 1 March 1954.
