Satan’s Triangle ** (1975, Kim Novak, Doug McClure, Alejandro Rey, Jim Davis, Ed Lauter, Michael Conrad, Titos Vandis) – Classic Movie Review 13,920

US Coast Guard lieutenant Doug McClure answers a Bermuda Triangle distress call and finds a ship with three dead bodies and one survivor (Kim Novak), in the 1975 mystery horror TV film Satan’s Triangle.

Director Sutton Roley’s 1975 TV mystery horror movie Satan’s Triangle stars Kim Novak and Doug McClure, along with Alejandro Rey, Jim Davis, Ed Lauter, Michael Conrad and Titos Vandis.

Satan’s Triangle is an intriguingly set up but preposterous, though strongly cast and handsomely filmed TV movie about dead bodies drifting in the Bermuda Triangle.

Kim Novak survives a shipwreck to find herself in a devilish stew. Michael Conrad, Doug McClure, Jim Davis and Ed Lauter help to come to her rescue only to find themselves in even deeper water.

Michael Conrad plays US Coast Guard pilot Lieutenant Commander Pagnolini and Doug McClure is his winchman Lieutenant J Haig, who answer an SOS call at sea and arrive at the Requite, a derelict schooner. Haig lowers himself to the ship, where he finds three dead bodies along with sole survivor Eva (Kim Novak), cowering in the cabin. Eva attributes the deaths to supernatural causes, but Haig has practical explanations.

William Read Woodfield’s script initially intrigues but then offers a rather dull plotline with little punch along the way to its hammed-up climax. Novak (in her second TV movie after 1973’s The Third Girl from the Left) still looks good and has the stuff, so she deserves better. It is amusing and diverting enough, it is just that there is not enough suspense, mystery or horror.

Made by Danny Thomas Productions, it premiered on 14 January 1975 as ABC Movie of the Week.

Running time: 74 minutes.
