Santa Fe ** (1951, Randolph Scott, Janis Carter, Jerome Courtland, Peter M Thompson, John Archer, Roy Roberts, Warner Anderson) – Classic Movie Review 6703

Director Irving Pichel’s 1951 Columbia Technicolor Western stars Randolph Scott as Britt Canfield, who leads his three younger brothers out West in search of adventure in this run-of-the-mill fighting-family Western.

The trio of brothers, Terry, Tom and Clint (played by Jerome Courtland, Peter M Thompson and John Archer), turn bad when they link up with gambler and crook Cole Sanders (Roy Roberts) and rob the railroad that Scott works for. Scott chases them and ends up hunting down Roberts.

Screen-writer Kenneth Gamet’s traditional, predictable story, based on a novel by James Marshall. at least has plenty of robust action to propel the familiar material along and a fine battling climax aboard a hurtling train.

Scott is on good form, Pichel works hard to make it fly, or at least keep it on the rails, and as well as that there is a good support cast of reliable Western support actors to provide solid entertainment.

Also in the cast are Janis Carter, Warner Anderson, Jock Mahoney, Harry Cording, Frank Ferguson and Harry Tyler, as well as the director Irving Pichel who plays Harned.

Santa Fe is directed by Irving Pichel, runs 89 minutes, is a Columbia Pictures release, is written by Kenneth Gamet, is shot in Technicolor by Charles Lawton Jr, is produced by Harry Joe Brown and scored by Morris Stoloff.
