Role Models *** (2008, Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott, Elizabeth Banks) – Classic Movie Review 3296

Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott are two of the funniest men and most likeable stars around so it’s no surprise they’re a laugh riot as Danny and Wheeler, a pair of idiot salesmen sentenced to 150 hours mentoring kids after trashing their company truck while pie-eyed.

Rudd co-writes the strong gag-packed script for this hilarious tale – basically a riff on Arnie’s Kindergarten Cop. Yes, there are lots of strong cursing and crude sexual references, sexual content and nudity but the movie’s warm heart and good humour are in the right places.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin from Superbad) and rap star Bobb’e J. Thompson score well too as the kids they are teaching. And adorable Elizabeth Banks (from Definitely, Maybe) is again a welcome, appealing presence as Rudd’s girlfriend. Also in the cast are Jane Lynch, Ken Jeong and Ken Marino.

The story is by Timothy Dowling and William Blake Herron; the screenplay is by Dowling, Rudd, Marino and the director, David Wain.
