Director Bernard Girard’s 1957 black and white American Western film Ride Out for Revenge stars Rory Calhoun, Gloria Grahame, Lloyd Bridges, Joanne Gilbert, Frank DeKova, and Vince Edwards.
In the screenplay by the film’s producer Norman Retchin, gold-diggers clash with Cheyenne Chief Yellow Wolf (Frank DeKova) and his band of Native Americans over land rights.
Rory Calhoun stars as Marshal Tate, who sides with the tribe and is in love with Yellow Wolf’s daughter, Pretty Willow (Joanne Gilbert). Gloria Grahame also stars as Amy Porter (Grahame), a widow who runs a boarding house and loves Tate. Lloyd Bridges plays army Captain George, who wants the Native Americans relocated from their own land.
Director Girard’s début features a dependable B-movie-style cast, and is a well-intentioned, basically intelligent Western. But it never develops its ideas satisfyingly or fully clarifies the issues involved, and instead goes the easy route of conventional romance and action violence.
Also with Vince Edwards as Little Wolf, Michael Winkelman as Billy, Cyril Delevanti as Preacher, John Merrick, and Richard Shannon.
It is produced by Kirk Douglas’s Bryna Productions company and released by United Artists.
Release date: November 1, 1957 (US).
Running time: 78 minutes.
