Project Almanac **½ (2015, Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Virginia Gardner, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista) – Movie Review

Jonny Weston plays David Raskin who discovers his dad’s secret plans for a time machine and he and a group of brainy American teens use them to construct one. As they go back and forth it time, things start to get out of control, generating a bit of excitement, but, luckily for the movie, David’s sister Christina (Virginia Gardner) is recording everything on her camcorder.

The shaky-cam filming is as annoying as ever, and the pseudo science is as silly as ever in this likeable enough  and passably entertaining teen time travel movie. The promising first half is the best, but when it generates into a troubled teen romance between David and his dream girl Jessie Pierce (Sofia Black-D’Elia), it gets way too soppy and silly.

Weston is a winning act, charming and appealing, and Black-D’Elia is very attractive as his girl. but Sam Lerner and Allen Evangelista are pretty average as his partners in science. Michael Bay produces on m obviously low budget of $12million, so the visual effects and action are only TV standard.
