Porky’s Revenge! * (1985, Dan Monahan, Wyatt Knight, Mark Herrier, Kaki Hunter, Tony Ganios, Chuck Mitchell) – Classic Movie Review 10,975

Director James Komack’s 1985 sex comedy Porky’s Revenge! also goes by the name of Porky’s 3, which is a clue that it is the third film in the series, following Porky’s (1981) and Porky’s II: The Next Day (1983). It is the third and final film of the original Porky’s film series, after recording the smallest gross of the series, with $20,518,905, a big drop from the first one’s box office of $105,500,000.

It stars Dan Monahan as Edward ‘Pee Wee’ Morris, Mark Herrier as Billy McCarty, Wyatt Knight as Tommy Turner, Kaki Hunter as Wendy Williams, Tony Ganios as Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello, Scott Colomby as Brian Schwartz, Nancy Parsons as Ms Beulah Balbricker, Eric Christmas as Mr Carter, Chuck Mitchell as Porky and Kim Evenson [Kimberly Evenson] as Inga.

It is written by Ziggy Steinberg, based on characters by Bob Clark, set as graduation nears for the class of 1955 at Angel Beach High. The now rather elderly-looking high school kids face the dilemma of what to do about being asked their old enemy Porky, who is betting on the opposing team, to rig the school’s championship basketball game when their coach owes money to the local cathouse keeper.

Sadly, despite the frantic and fairly fearless efforts of the game cast, Porky’s Revenge! is disagreeable, boring, unpleasantly smutty (though that is supposed to be a good thing here) and not a bit funny. Komack, making his directorial debut, said: ‘I’m not going to whitewash the bawdiness or clean up the tone of their antics.’

The soundtrack, produced and assembled by Dave Edmunds, is the film’s saving grace. It consists of newly recorded versions of classic rock and roll tunes, as well as George Harrison’s recording of the unreleased Bob Dylan song ‘I Don’t Want to Do It’ and Dave Edmunds’s ‘High School Nights’ and the ‘Porky’s Revenge!’ theme music.

The film’s budget was $7.8 million, some of which was spent on building a large gambling boat, because Porky (Chuck Mitchell) now owns a riverboat with a casino and strip club, and the $20 million Miami Island mansion Vizcaya is also used as a key setting.

Also in the cast are Nancy Hassinger as Pee Wee’s Grandmother, Rose McVeigh as Miss Webster, Wendy Feign as Blossom, Fred Buch as Mr Dobish, Ilse Earl as Mrs Morris, Bill Hindman as Coach Goodenough, Ron Campbell as Crutcher, Mal Jones as Bridge Guard, and Heidi Helmer.

Among the 15 stunt players, is Luke Halpin, the boy from Flipper.
