Phantoms *** (1998, Peter O’Toole, Ben Affleck, Joanna Going, Liev Schreiber, Rose McGowan) – Classic Movie Review 5100

OMG, 150 people are dead and 350 are missing in the tiny mountain town of Snowfield, Colorado, and that’s not good.

It turns out that a monster is terrorising the Californian Rocky Mountain community, where sisters Joanna Going and Rose McGowan turn up to find a ghost town with a lot of corpses, a sheriff (Ben Affleck), a deputy (Liev Schreiber) and a mad scientist (Peter O’Toole).

Director Joe Chappelle’s pretty scary and appetising 1998 chiller is a tense, well acted and atmospheric, with an effective screenplay by Dean R Koontz, adapting his own novel.

Also in the cast are Clifton Powell, Nicky Katt, Rick Otto, Bo Hopkins and Robert Knepper.
