The 1965 film Paris Vu Par [Six in Paris] is a starry, enjoyable French New Wave portmanteau movie or anthology film, exploring the delights of different parts of Paris, as seen through the eyes of six directors, including big guns Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol and Eric Rohmer, and also Jean Douchet, Jean Rouch and Jean-Daniel Pollet.

Shot quickly and cheaply in 16mm, and then blown up for release in 35mm, these short shorts are bright, lively and amusing, with Chabrol’s segment La Muette (in which a boy – Gilles Chusseau – uses earplugs to block the sound of his parents – Stéphane Audran and Claude Chabrol – arguing, and cannot hear his mum’s shouts for help) outstanding.

Acting-wise, Micheline Dax is a knockout as the hooker in Pollet’s Rue Saint-Denis segment.

It is the first film of Joanna Shimkus as Monica in the Montparnasse-Levallois segment.

The cast include Stéphane Audran, Claude Chabrol, Serge Davri, Jean-Pierre Andréani, Nadine Ballot, Barbet Schroeder, Joanna Shimkus, Barbara Wilkin, Jean Douchet, Micheline Dax, Claude Melki, Gilles Chusseau, Jean-François Chappey, Dany Saril, Jean-Michel Rouzière and Marcel Gallon.
