Money from Home * (1953, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Marjie Millar, Pat Crowley, Richard Haydn) – Classic Movie Review 12,031

Director George Marshall’s 1954 Technicolor 3D comedy film Money from Home stars Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, and is based on a Damon Runyon.

Dean Martin is his usual free-wheeling, eyebrow-raising self as Herman ‘Honey Talk’ Nelson, a gambler on the horses in trouble with bad debts to crook Jumbo Schneider (Sheldon Leonard). Martin finds himself caught between the hoods and his kooky sidekick Virgil Yokum (Jerry Lewis), his vet cousin masquerading as an English jockey.

Money from Home is tired, addle-brained comedy fare, first released in 3D, with all the familiar Martin and Lewis situations and Jerry in the throes of the same old spasms. It is slowed down by a couple of mediocre songs from Dino and there is even one from Jerry.

Also in the cast are Marjie Millar, Pat Crowley, Richard Haydn, Robert Strauss, Gerald Mohr, Sheldon Leonard, and Jack Kruschen.

It is the feature film debut of Pat Crowley (born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania). She plays Dr Autumn Claypool.

Pat Crowley won a shared Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer – Female for Forever Female (1953) and Money from Home (1953), tied with Barbara Rush (born January 4, 1927) for It Came from Outer Space (1953) and Bella Darvi for The Egyptian (1954) and Hell and High Water (1954).

Money from Home is directed by George Marshall, runs 100 minutes, is made by Wallis-Hazen [Hal B Wallis and Joseph H Hazen], is released by Paramount Pictures, is written by Hal Kanter (screenplay) and James B Allardice , is shot in Technicolor 3D by Daniel L Fapp, is produced by Hal B Wallis, and is scored by Leigh Harline.
