Mean Girls **** (2004, Lindsay Lohan, Jonathan Bennett, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Lacey Chabert) – Classic Movie Review 967

1

Lindsay Lohan hits the jackpot this time in director Mark S Waters’s stingingly witty 2004 teen movie. Starting at a new school, 16-year-old Cady Heron (Lohan) soon joins The Plastics, the A-list clan clique of queen bitches. Cady is a hit until she makes the mistake of falling for hunky Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic, Regina George (Rachel McAdams).

There are clever and funny one-liners galore, and a hilarious gallery of amusingly oddball characters, including the teacher, Mrs Norbury (played by Tina Fey, who also wrote the witty screenplay, based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Wiseman). In the story, Mrs Norbury is wrongly accused of being involved in drugs.

Then just 18 and at the height of her career, the talented Ms Lohan gives easily her best and most charismatic turn so far.

Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried are also in the cast.
