Director Aldo Lado’s 1975 Italian rape-and-revenge horror thriller Last Stop on the Night Train [L’Ultimo Treno della Notte] stars Flavio Bucci, Macha Méril, Gianfranco De Grassi, Irene Miracle, Laura D’Angelo, Franco Fabrizzi, Marina Berti, and Enrico Maria Salerno.

Irene Miracle and Laura D’Angelo play Margaret and Lisa, two young women riding a train through Germany on Christmas Eve, going home to their families to celebrate the Christmas season. They are terrorised by two men, petty criminals Blackie (Flavio Bucci) and Curly (Gianfranco De Grassi), and one woman on the last train of the night and end up lodging in Lisa’s parents’ home in Italy.

The film was rejected for cinema classification by the BBFC in the UK in 1976. Then it was banned as a video nasty in 1983, though it was removed from the list in 1984. It was finally passed uncut in 2008 and distributed on DVD by Shameless Screen Entertainment.

The screenplay by Aldo Lado and Renato Izzo is based on a story by Roberto Infascelli and Ettore Sanzò, influenced by the plots of Ingmar Bergman’s The Virgin Spring (1960) and Wes Craven’s The Last House on the Left (1972).

It is also known as Night Train Murders, Late Night Trains, The New House on the Left, Second House on the Left, and Don’t Ride on Late Night Trains.

L’Ultimo Treno della Notte is directed by Aldo Lado, runs 94 minutes, is made by European Corp, Hallmark and Central Park, is released by Produzioni Atlas Consorziate (P.A.C.), is written by Aldo Lado and Renato Izzo, based on a story by Roberto Infascelli and Ettore Sanzò, is shot by Gabór Pogány, is scored by Ennio Morricone, and is designed by Franco Bottari.
