Last Dance *** (1996, Sharon Stone, Rob Morrow, Randy Quaid) – Classic Movie Review 1484

Director Bruce Beresford’s 1996 release stars Sharon Stone, who gives one of her least typical performances in this incredibly depressing drama. It was dubbed Dead Woman Walking as it’s about Cindy Liggett, a female killer (Stone) on Death Row after being convicted of first degree murder, and the efforts to save her. Rob Morrow co-stars as young lawyer Rick Hayes, who is assigned to Liggett’s clemency case.

The movie may be a downer, whatever its impeccable credentials and however conscientiously made, but, the jury’s now delivered its verdict, Stone can act. Good though the film is, it did have the terrible problem and disadvantage of following the similarly themed Dead Man Walking (1995), which is such a much better film.

Randy Quaid, Peter Gallagher, Jack Thompson, Skeet Ulrich and Charles S Dutton also star.

Ron Koslow writes the screenplay from his own story, co-written by Steven Haft.
