Lady of Vengeance ** (1957, Dennis O’Keefe, Ann Sears, Anton Diffring, Patrick Barr) – Classic Movie Review 12,001

The enjoyably creaky old 1957 British film noir crime thriller Lady of Vengeance stars Dennis O’Keefe, Ann Sears and Anton Diffring.

Director Burt Balaban’s 1957 British film noir crime thriller Lady of Vengeance stars Dennis O’Keefe, Ann Sears, Anton Diffring and Patrick Barr.

[Spoiler alert] Rich, domineering American newspaper publisher William T Marshal (O’Keefe) gets in too deep when he makes the mistake of bribing a criminal mastermind called Emile Karnak (Diffring) to kill a man who was responsible for his young ward’s suicide. But, Karnak targets the wrong man and, in the film’s one clever twist, Karnak turns out to be the young woman’s killer.

O’Keefe is okay and Diffring is effectively chilling in this adequate if very mundane little Brit thriller, quickly made at the British Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Barr is capable if typecast as the police inspector.

The cast are Dennis O’Keefe as William T Marshal, Ann Sears as Katie Whiteside, Anton Diffring as Emile Karnak, Patrick Barr as Inspector Madden, Vernon Greeves as Larry Shaw, Eileen Elton as Melissa Collins, Frederick Schiller as Schleigel, Jacqueline Curtis as Penny, G.H. Mulcaster as Bennett, Gerald Case as Hawley, Jack McNaughton as Coroner, Colin Croft as Bartender, Andy Ho as Houseman, and Humphrey Morton as Corbey.
