Her Husband’s Affairs ** (1947, Lucille Ball, Franchot Tone, Edward Everett Horton, Mikhail Rasumny, Gene Lockhart, Jonathan Hale) – Classic Movie Review 11,468

‘IF YOU THINK YOUR HUSBAND IS NUTS… get a load of Lucille Ball’s husband Franchot Tone’.

Director S Sylvan Simon’s 1947 Columbia Pictures American romantic comedy film Her Husband’s Affairs stars Lucille Ball, Franchot Tone, Edward Everett Horton, Mikhail Rasumny, Gene Lockhart, and Jonathan Hale.

Margaret Weldon (Lucille Ball) keeps getting mixed up in her husband William (Tone)’s business affairs as he tries to sell a hair-remover that actually grows hair to industrialist Peter Winterbottom (Lockhart). Rasumny plays Professor Emil Glinka, the daffy, eccentric inventor of the miracle fluid (an embalming fluid by-product).

This Forties comedy is extremely silly but carefree and jolly, thanks to the pleasant-enough original screenplay by Ben Hecht and Charles Lederer and the above average cast obviously and infectiously enjoying themselves.

Director Simon keeps it suitably frothy and fast moving and the short running time of 84 minutes ensures that it doesn’t wear out its welcome. There is wit in the script and fun in Ball’s performance.

Also in the cast are Edward Everett Horton as J.B. Cruikshank, Mikhail Rasumny as Professor Emil Glinka, Gene Lockhart as Peter Winterbottom, Nana Bryant as Mrs Winterbottom, Jonathan Hale as Gov. Fox, Paul Stanton as Dr Frazee, Mabel Paige as Mrs. Josper, Stanley Blystone, Cliff Clark, William Gould, Charles Hamilton, Teddy Infuhr, Selmer Jackson, Robert Emmett Keane, Frank Mayo, Arthur Space, Charles Trowbridge, Charles Williams, Charles C Wilson, Douglas Wood, Eric Wilton, Fred F Sears, and Susan Simon.
