James Arness again stars as Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke: The Long Ride, the 1993 American Western TV film based on the record-breaking series Gunsmoke.

Director Jerry Jameson’s 1993 Western film Gunsmoke: The Long Ride is No 4 in the five film reunion movie series of welcome TV movie follow-ups to the massively popular TV show that ran a record 635 episodes over 20 seasons between 1955 and 1975.

After 21 TV seasons on the range, James Arness still stands tall as the rugged Marshal Matt Dillon forced out of retirement after being wrongfully charged by a lying witness with a killing on his daughter’s wedding day.

It stars James Arness, Ali MacGraw as Jane Merkel, James Brolin as John Parsley, Amy Stock-Poynton [Amy Stoch] as Beth Reardon, and Christopher Bradley as Josh Reardon. Also in the cast are Patrick Dollaghan, Don McManus, Marco Sanchez, Tim Choate, Michael Greene, Stewart Moss, Jim Beaver, and Ed Adams.

Amy Stock-Poynton [Amy Stoch appears as Marshal Matt Dillon’s daughter Beth in four of the Gunsmoke TV movies.

Gunsmoke: The Long Ride is directed by Jerry Jameson, runs 97 minutes, is made by CBS Entertainment Production, is released by CBS (US), is written by Bill Stratton, is shot by Ross A Maehl, is produced by James Arness and Norman S Powell, and is scored by Artie Kane.

It is shot in New Mexico, US.

It follows Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge (TV Movie 1987), Gunsmoke: The Last Apache (TV Movie 1990) and Gunsmoke: To the Last Man (TV Movie 1992). It is followed by Gunsmoke: One Man’s Justice (TV Movie 1994).

Gunsmoke was the longest-running scripted American primetime TV series until The Simpsons notched up more episodes. It was retitled Gun Law in the UK.
