Gregory’s Two Girls ** (1999, John Gordon Sinclair, Carly McKinnon, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Dougray Scott, John Murtagh) Classic Movie Review 9339

The beloved 1980 Scottish comedy classic Gregory’s Girl gets a belated sequel in Bill Forsyth’s 1999 romantic comedy Gregory’s 2 Girls [Gregory’s Two Girls], with Gregory (John Gordon Sinclair) now a gangly English teacher, back at his old school, lusting after one of his pupils (Carly McKinnon) and avoiding the woman (Maria Doyle Kennedy) who actually loves him.

With a rambling, unfocused script by Bill Forsyth, this is an uncomfortable experience, as it is neither very charming nor very funny. But it does have its appealing moments and the very likeable Sinclair is certainly still amusing.

Also in the cast are Dougray Scott, John Murtagh, Hugh McCue, Martin Schwab, Alexander Morton, William Harkness, Albert Coulson, Paul Birchard, Simon Huh, Dawn Steele, Kevin Anderson, Fiona Bell, Constanzo Cacace, Gary Lewis, Anne Kidd, Matt Costello, Jane Stabler, Stewart Preston and Anne Marie Timoney.

This is Bill Forsyth’s eighth and most recent film.

It was shot at Abronhill High School, Abronhill, Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
