Dangerous Money * (1946, Sidney Toler, Gloria Warren, Victor Sen Yung, Rick Vallin) – Classic Movie Review 9068

Director Terry O Morse’s 1946 comedy crime mystery thriller Dangerous Money is a disappointingly poor and predictable Charlie Chan episode, with a lack of the required pace and tension, as Chan (Sidney Toler) and Number two Son Jimmy (Victor Sen Yung) board a ship to Pago Pago and rather aimlessly investigate the usual death at sea of a Fed treasury agent man, who was probing a counterfeiting gang of looters.

Toler is still fine as Chan though and there are amusing moments in an always-likeable series that had perhaps run too long by this time as it is the 39th of the 47 Charlie Chan movies.

Also in the cast are Gloria Warren, Rick Vallin, Joseph Crehan, Willie Best, Dick Elliott, Elaine Lange, Amira Moustafa, Joe Allen Jr, Bruce Edwards, Emmett Vogan, John Harmon, Alan Douglas, Dudley Dickerson and Selmer Jackson.

Dangerous Money is directed by Terry Morse, runs 64 minutes, is made and released by Monogram Pictures, is written by Miriam Kissinger, is shot in black and white by William A Sickner and is produced by James S Burkett.

The 39th of 47 Charlie Chan movies, it follows Shadows Over Chinatown (1946) and is followed by The Trap (1946).
