Director Kimble Rendall’s 2000 Australian horror thriller Cut is written by Dave Warner, based on his story with Mark Ramprell, and stars Kylie Minogue, Molly Ringwald, Geoff Revell, and Frank Roberts, with Jessica Napier, Geoff Revell, Sarah Kants, Sam Lewis, Stephen Curry, Tiriel Mora.

A costumed killer with a hidden agenda begins to stalk the actors of a low-budget horror film being made by students who intend to finish off a movie halted years before in 1988 by a murderous actor. In 1988, personal assistant Lossman (Geoff Revel) comes in just as actress Vanessa Turnbill (Molly Ringwald) grabs the shears and stabs Brad (Frank Roberts) through the neck, killing him. Since then, anyone who has tried to finish the Hot Blooded movie has ended up murdered mysteriously. 

It is now 2000, and Lossman is a college film professor teaching students Raffy Carruthers (Jessica Napier), Hester Ryan (Sarah Kants), Damien Ogle (Sam Lewis), Julie Bardot (Cathy Adamek), Rick Stephens (Stephen Curry), Jim Pilonski (Steve Greig), Cassie Woolf (Erika Walters) and Paulie Morrelli (Matt Russell). Despite Lossman’s warnings, the group decides to finish the movie and contacts Vanessa, who agrees to return to Australia to finish the movie.

This gory, thin, derivatively premised chiller does eventually spark off some fresh thrills and new ideas, and provides gainful employment for both Minogue and Ringwald. Its knowing Scream-style, elbow-nudging sense of humour helps to save it.
